- edited July 2014Are you asking why get Sims 2 Ultimate? I had everything except M&G, and one other . can't remember which .. but the reason I got the digital Ultimate is because my disks are old. One has hairline cracks forming around the middle and probably can't be installed anymore. When I get a new computer (and there's ALWAYS a new computer somewhere down the road) I worried that I wouldn't be able to reinstall all my games unless I bought used disks to replace them. Plus I'm not sure the patches would still be out there to patch things. So .. getting the digital version, for free, got me some content I didn't have, plus a safer way to store my game for future.

I have all the expansions/stuffs for TS2 but one of my disks was bad and wouldn't install any more. Mansions & Gardens disk was getting warn out because that was the disk I used to start the game. I don't know how much longer it would last.
I just renamed my EA Games in Documents before uninstalling so game didn't see it and couldn't uninstall my saves.
It's good for me because I can use the UC exe to start the game without wearing out my disks or having to be connected to Origins to play. I now have both the download and the disk if I need it. For me, someone who still plays it a lot, It's Awesome! - edited July 2014Kind of is no point now since there's no more updates for the game. I guess if somehow happens to your cds. You'll still be able to play.

@RFLong7
Sounds like a question I just put forth in 'Tech'. I just got Sims 2 Ultimate from Origin YEAH!
BUT I have sims 2 already installed In Disc Form(plus all EP's and most SP's but not M&G).
I want to install the origin version but Can I Have BOTH on same computer without uninstalling All my discs AND cc?
Sounds to me like you have both installed? How exactly does that work for instance your Downloads folder under 'Documents' ?
I have to run now but will be back tomorrow. Thanks for any reply in advance! - edited July 2014Hi

I did not uninstall my games before I installed the digital copy. The digital installs to Program Files/Origin Games rather than Program Files/EA Games, so there is no conflict there. However, when you load the game, it WILL overwrite your files in My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2, so you need to pull that folder out or back up the files before the first time you load the game. I just pulled the whole folder out and let Ultimate make new folders. (First load takes a long time as a result; mine took 10 minutes).
After first load, I closed my game and put back the Downloads folder, SavedSims folder, and PackagedLots folder. I didn't want to continue any neighborhoods I'd been playing, so I didn't put any of them back. Then I loaded the game, enabled custom content, exited, then loaded again (silly ritual, but cc won't show up unless you enable and then exit).
Afterwards I uninstalled my original games because I didn't need them anymore. (I had left them on because I was afraid something would go wrong with the digital download and then I'd be left with nothing, but of course that did not happen).
Hope this helps. If someone else has had a different experience, hop on in. - edited July 2014It's great because you won't need 17+ disks when you want to reinstall everything. You can just do it through Origin.

That is so true I would laugh but I kind don't think its funny its more sad. It's great because you won't need 17+ disks when you want to reinstall everything. You can just do it through Origin.0 - edited July 2014It's great because you won't need 17+ disks when you want to reinstall everything. You can just do it through Origin.
Exactly. I think my last actual install was 2 days of work. - edited July 2014Hi

Thank you so much for this reply MsPhy, I am looking for just this type of info. I'm very familiar with all the rituals and probably some new ones as I have over 5 GB's of stuffs in the Downloads folder!
I haven't yet taken the plunge and Downloaded and installed it.
SO - it's O.K. to have BOTH the disc version and the Origin Digital Download version installed. And I don't Have to uninst6all old version if I don't want to?
But all the saved info under 'Documents' will be re-written so Back All That Up, and later add back what you want.
Sounds plausible!
I cannot have BOTH games as if it were on 2 different computers though, as far as stuff in Documents. - edited July 20140
- edited July 2014I would claim the origin, just in case your disk cracks or scratches. It's good to have a back up. Plus it's a LOT easier to download and install from origin, less time consuming and less swapping out disks and loading in between installs. Just one click and it's all done anywhere from 30-75 minutes (depending on your network speed). And the latest update is in origin, just right click on the game in origin after it's installed and click 'check for updates.' It's just easier.& http://exotickittens.blogspot.com & https://twitter.com/simkitten
